Summary

The questions of interhemispheric asymmetry of the higher mental functions are discussed on the basis of literature data and the authors' experiments. The hypothesis is advanced on the evolutionary development of the left hemisphere as the organ of self-consciousness (reflexion), dominating over the right one.
